Wine tasting and talking
In 1987, one year after I joined the OECD, I was finally admitted to the macroeconomists’ wine tasting club. Some 35 years later, I am still a member of this august group, notwithstanding a 13 year break.
Macroeconomists can be a rather boring lot. But their meticulous, analytical bent lends itself to wine tasting. And all things considered, OECD macroeconomists are a good bunch.
That said, our wine tastings are usually serious business — 4 wines and some cheese, ham and pate for 12 tasters.
Our “president”, Bob Price, chooses the wines, thanks to his encyclopedic knowledge of French and other wines.
Today we started the tasting with two excellent chardonnays:
— Pierre Morey, Meursault Premier Cru Perrières 2013
— Isole e Olena Collezione Privata Chardonnay Toscana IG 2013
Then for the second round, we tasted two exceptional red burgundies from Volnay:
— Domaine Arnaud Ente Volnay, Les Santenots-du-Milieu, 1er Cru, 2011
— Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des 60 Ouvrées" 2013
One problem, we only do tastings once a month!
