Sora, a new franco-japanese restaurant in Paris
Today, it was just a short walk in my local Parisian district. Fortunately, I stumbled across a new restaurant, Sora, which offers a delicious franco-japanese cuisine.
Sora is located at 70 rue de Longchamp, near Trocadéro, in the heart of Paris’ 16th arrondissement. Sora is the creation of its chef Claudio Rotondo, in a splendid décor imagined by designer Isadora Viquel. Entrepreneur Michel Puech, is another partner in Sora. During my visit, I was warmly welcomed by the second chef, Claudio Rotondo.
The menu has a range of familiar Japanese names like edamame, maki, tempura, sashimi, soba, salad, fish and meat. But from what I experienced, each dish starts with a Japanese foundation, which becomes the basis for a fusion-creation.
I ordered Soba Cardamome — soba noodles and a cream sauce with fish eggs and dried bonito — along with aubergine miso seasoned with miso sauce, white garlic and black sesame.
After these delights, how could I resist a dessert. So I took a chocolate mousse with its miso sauce!
With a small glass of saki and a bottle of sparkling water, the bill came to only 57 euros.
Sora is presently undertaking a “soft opening”, and will have its grand opening at “la rentree” in September. It is now open and will close for holidays on 31 July, and then open again on 22 August.
The restaurant scene in Paris strikes me as being tired, overly reliant on tourists, and in need of new ideas. The new restaurant Sora most certainly has plenty of new ideas and is very. much worth trying.
Bon appetit!
