Rilly-la-Montagne again
This time I headed west from Rilly-la-Montagne along the vineyards in the foothills of the Montagne de Reims for several kilometres until there were virtually no longer any vineyards.
It was nice being perched up in the foothills, and able to look out over the bustle of Reims in the distance — see photo.
I then did a big loop back around through the lower foothills and back up to Rilly-la-Montagne to add a few kilometres to the walk. The village of Villers-Allerand was very nice, with a beautiful romanesque church — Église Sainte-Agathe.
This church dates from the 12th century and beautifully looks over the vineyards — see photo. There were also many nice houses. Champagne is obviously a profitable business
Back to Rilly-la-Montagne for a nice salad and of course a coupe de Champagne. After three visits, I know well the personnel at the cafe in Rilly!
