Le Café à la Fontaine

When spring and summer sunshine arrive, it’s time to head to a terrace/cafe, with tables spreading out onto the footpaths.

Parisians love the fun of sitting on a terrace, chatting with friends or colleagues, and watching life go by.  True, there is noise from traffic and  pollution.  But after the long Parisian winter, the joy of being outdoors is special.

One such place is Le Café à la Fontaine, located on the corner of Rue Raynouard, Rue Boulainvilliers, and Rue Jean de la Fontaine, just down the road from the Philippine Embassy.  It is thus a regular haunt for June and her colleagues.

Le Café à la Fontaine describes itself as a brasserie that combines Parisian charm and a friendly atmosphere, just steps from the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty.

Like most cafes, Le Café à la Fontaine is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  And also like most cafes, there is nothing special about the food.  For meal time, they offer salads, steaks, hamburgers, pasta and always some plats du jour (chef’s daily specials).

But that is not the point.  Such cafes are a place where you can eat an honest and fair-priced meal, and enjoy chatting with friends or strangers.

Yesterday was a special occasion, as it was the last time we will visit Le Café à la Fontaine before our impending departure for Manila.
